A personal injury lawyer will provide their client with support, get them access to the medical attention they need and make sure that they are properly compensated, their bills are taken care of, their families looked after, and that they can eventually resume some sort of normal life.
How should I look for a Personal Injury Lawyer?
Find a lawyer that specializes exclusively in personal injury law because the advice you're going to get from a specialist is much more detailed and geared towards what you need. You should also find someone that you are comfortable with, someone that knows how to listen and address your concerns, but also someone who knows how to ask the right questions because, in the beginning, it can be difficult to know what questions to ask or what you're entitled to. It is important to have someone to be receptive, responsive, and compassionate to your needs.
When should I hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?
Ideally, you will want a Personal Injury Lawyer to be involved from the outset of the case to assist in coordinating your legal matters. When a person is first injured, insurance companies will send over a lot of documents that need to be looked after immediately. If we are involved from the beginning, that burden can be lessened. We can make sure that you are focusing on your care while we are taking care of the insurance company's needs, filling out the paperwork and coordinating your care. However, a lawyer can be involved at any stage of the process.
How much will my personal injury case cost?
Initially, when we discuss a case with someone and we believe that they have a case that is worth proceeding with, we provide a fee structure which is called a contingency agreement. This means that if we take on the case we agree to finance the case, taking on the risks of the case means there is no financial obligation on the victim or their families until the case is resolved. If the case does not settle or does not get resolved there is simply no legal fee.
Will I have to go to court for my personal injury case?
The number of personal injury cases that actually go to court is low and the more serious cases where the injuries are clear and uncontroversial rarely if ever go to court. It is the more disputable cases such as those surrounding liability where the Canadian Health Act is in doubt or where the nature of the injury is in doubt that will often require you to go to court.
How much contact will I have with my Personal Injury Lawyer?
Our clients are free to call us anytime that they have concerns. We have a policy that all calls will be returned the same day or within 24 hours. We encourage our clients to communicate with us as often as they feel is necessary. We do not want our clients to feel like we are a corporate lawyer that sends a bill every time they call.
Why do I need a specialist in Personal Injury Law?
The advantages of a Personal Injury Lawyer that specializes in only one area because they'll be able to properly understand all the aspects and details involved in your case and they will have a better infrastructure of rehabilitation workers, case managers, and doctors to help facilitate your recovery process better than a general practitioner.
What can I be compensated for after a personal injury?
In addition to the medical and rehabilitation, you are also entitled to loss of income compensation for pain and suffering because of the injuries you sustained and your family is also entitled to compensation for the loss of care guidance and companionship that they have sustained because of your injuries.
What if I can't go back to my old job after a personal injury?
